4 March 2016, front axle noise....

Bristol 403-1404

During the first miles of driving the 403, I heard some noises in the region of the front axle. Marco Gordini dismantled it and found that the swivel pins were badly scorched

Bristol 403-1404

This was the right moment to check the whole front axle and the ENOTS lubricating systems, that I want to work as intended by Bristol in 1953

This means that we can have a good look at the front drums, checking if they are alloy (they are Alfin, yes) and if all the levers etc are ok. Brake shoes were changed at the end of the restoration. Above is the LH drum....

...and this one is the RH drum. They look quite good and they are surely adequate for the standards of a 1953 100 bhp luxury sports car

The old hoses of the ENOTS have to be replaced, Bristol Cars Ltd supplied the new ones

New metal was applied to pins....

...then the pins being adapted to their sleeves. They worked fine

After the Villa d'Este week-end, more repairs were needed: the spark plugs were changed to try to get rid of the annoying fouling of the no 2 plug, now 6 NGK C6HSA have been fitted following the general opinion of the more experienced BOC members and the authoritative confirmation of Peter Campbell

The wipers didn't work very well, but I want to keep the original 'Made in England' arms, I just need some better blades with this 'spoon' attachment. Blades are 10" long

Bristol 403

Bleeding the brake circuit once again, for a better 'feel'. Many bolts were tightened again all around the chassis after the first shakedown drives

Marco Gordini refilling the engine. It's easy to see that we really trust Castrol's finest for my cars. One kg of oil seems to be an acceptable consumption over 1000 kms (630 miles) for a 1954 Bristol engine...is it?
