The starter motor was removed when the gearbox was taken off the 409. This is the stock starter for a 318 'A' small block Chrysler/Plymouth V8

New starter motors for classic Mopar V8s are lighter than the original, offer more torque and use less battery. Sadly, this motor will NOT fit on the 318 of my Bristol (too long, it's good for the 383 of a 411), so don't buy one for your 409!

Not even this starter fits my 318 engine. This picture shows the difference between the old (left) and new motor.
