I just love Bristols, and have been
always fascinated by them. They are quite simply
the most exclusive Marque in Britain, its production being so small that
some of its models have been built in no more than 70-75 units. Being all
hand-made, with aluminum bodies superbly hand-beaten and finished by
British artisans, it's one of the last examples of classic British
craftsmanship.
I've bought in June 2009 my 409, #7355, from H&H Auctions, and I am very proud of it. I restored it completely during the winter between 2010 and 2011, and the results are very pleasing.
Practical Classics showed its understanding of the qualities of Bristol cars in their August 2003 issue:
"IS IT FOR ME?
Depends on whether you have impeccably good taste, an appreciation of craftmanship and a dislike of anything showy or vulgar. If you do, you are a natural Bristol customer.
Bristols are one of motoring's best-kept secrets, rarely advertised and built to customer order at a rate that makes Morgan look like a high-volume manufacturer.
Bristols were built to be used, and used hard. They're not as fragile as, say, a DB-series Aston and they are not as expensive to fix. Buy one and you can expect to be enjoying it for a long time to come..."
A Great Club: The Bristol Owners' Club
Ho sempre amato le Bristol, sin dai primi
momenti che ha iniziato a interessarmi di automobili d'epoca. Era il 1975
o giù di lì e ho capito subito che le Bristol erano uniche per il loro
stile fatto di lusso e discrezione, understatement e
prestigio, altissime prestazioni e grande confort.
Finalmente, dopo tanti anni, ho deciso di soddisfare questa antica passione e di acquistare questa 409 nel giugno 2009 da H&H Auctions: un acquisto telefonico. E' il telaio #7355, tutta originale a parte il colore della carrozzeria, ha un motore americano (Chrysler) 5,2 litri a otto cilindri, la sua bella carrozzeria tutta d'alluminio, un magnifico interno rifinito in maniera superba e praticamente perfetto.
Practical Classics ha dimostrato di avere capito tutto delle Bristol con queste annotazioni sul numero di Agosto 2003:
"E' adatta a me? Dipende: se avete un gusto impeccabile, apprezzate il lavoro artigianale e deprecate ogni esibizionismo e volgarità, siete un cliente naturale della Bristol. Le Bristol sono fra i segreti meglio custoditi nel mondo dell'automobile, raramente hanno fatto pubblicità e ognuna viene tuttora costruita su specifico ordine di un cliente, a un ritmo che fa sembrare la Morgan un costruttore di massa.
Le Bristol sono sempre state costruite per essere usate, anche duramente. Non sono fragili come, ad esempio, un'Aston DB e non sono altrettanto costose da riparare. Se ne comprate una, potete contare di godervela per molti, molti anni...."
