THE TEMPLES OF THE COCKTAIL MARTINI

Martini at Costes Paris

'Costes' is since years a symbol of a new type of restaurant and bar in Paris, and this stylish place in Rue de Saint Honoré is always full of good-looking people doing their best to have a good time (and apparently succeeding). The Martini is a must, though the choice of this strange glass to serve it is unexplainable: Louis XIV Martini...? As it happens quite often in Paris, the first serving was unacceptably sweet, but when you require a veryveryvery dry one ('s'il vous plait') they manage to give you a decent one. The ambience is good in this pitch-dark bar, the price admittedly a bit steep but you must accept it if you want to be in one of Paris' most stylish places.

P.S. Costes 2: L'Avenue, Paris

'Costes' own also the fashionable 'L'Avenue' in Avenue Montaigne, a place allegedly very much appreciated by actors, models etc. For us it was a very nice restaurant with extremely good food (foie gras being really excellent!) and if the Martini glass was this cheap-looking thing, at least the mix wasn't bad and a look out of the window at the Tour Eiffel will make you forgive them for almost anything....
