In Bologna, sharing good food and drink with friends is a religion, and the aperitivo has always been a staple of the daytime fun of every decent Bolognese citizen. (Note to foreigners: 'Spaghetti Bolognese' do NOT exist in Bologna and we frankly loathe the idea.)

The Martini is, not surprisingly, a big favourite of every professional who wants to enjoy a smooth, pleasurable transition from a stressful day of work to the pleasures of the evening, either at home with the family or out with friends. Some bars are good, other are less pleasurable. Not recommended is the much overvalued 'Gamberini' whilst some other places are offering their customers excellent Martinis prepared with taste, flair and the best ingredients around.

'Galleria Cavour 1-Bar and Winery' is located in the most luxurious shopping aggregate of Bologna, the 'Galleria Cavour', a large stylish arcade where you can find Gucci and Rolex, Prada and Cucinelli, Tod's, Hogan, Chopard and so on. The bartenders and waiters of this watering hole, that every Bolognese knows simply as 'Bar della Galleria', have recently changed so whilst I shall maintain a picture (below) of what the old bartenders offered us, judgement on today's 'Bar' is suspended until there will be the right moment to test their Martini cocktail.

The old management of 'Bar della Galleria' offered to their customers a really tasty complement of appetizers that went well with their excellent Martini....
