The 'Baglioni' is one of Milano's best luxury hotels. Anna and I chose it for our latest stary in Milano because it's a fine hotel with a strategical position (its back entrance opens in Via della Spiga...) and especially because it hosts one of my favourite restaurants in Italy, 'Il Baretto'

Old hunting prints, tartan carpets and young members of the Clergy all mix extremely well in this stylish but not flashy restaurant, where celebrities can have a quiet moment out of the limilight. When I took this the President of Mediaset was sitting at the table behind us and the last time we had been there Miuccia Prada was sitting beside me |

2022 The 'Baretto' is now closed since ages, and we miss it. We know that a great international corporation has bought the hotel and is 'refurbishing' it. I'm afraid that this will involve some brilliant 'New Age' architect that will transform it in a minimalistic drinking spot for passing tourist. A place that will be initially fashionable and then will unavoidably decline. Depriving us, meanwhile, of one of the latest true chic spots in Milan, trading the old clique of affectionate customers for a bunch of cheap travellers in shorts and sandals. A real tragedy. That I keep this place in this position is a tribute to how great and elegant it once was, a stylish place that will be lost forever |
