THE TEMPLES OF THE COCKTAIL MARTINI

Giardino di Costanza, Mazara del Vallo

A splendid place tucked in the South-West corner of Sicily near the large harbour town of Mazara del Vallo, where Europe and Africa are nearly one entity; the Kempinski ‘Giardino di Costanza’ offers to the traveller a sophisticated place to stay and have a very pleasant dinner as well.

The bartenders here understand the plea for a very dry Martini cocktail, but, as in many other places of this kind in Sicily, they don’t keep nor gin nor vodka in their freezers so your choice at first is between a not very cold Martini or a fairly ‘watery’ shaken mixture. The bartenders were however up to the task of putting the vodka in the freezer for the second evening of our stay there and the result was a very good Martini in a very decent tall stem glass that we enjoyed on the private terrace of our room, enjoying the piano entertainment offered by the hotel in the garden. A very good piano player, I may add as a musicophile
