One of the best golf resorts in Sicily
lies just a few miles from
Ragusa
and its wonderful Baroque buildings. The Donnafugata offers a 36-holes
golf course, pools, spa, a high-level restaurant on a panoramic terrace
overlooking the resort. Everybody is extremely courteous and the food
very good, based, obviously, on the traditional Sicilian dishes with
some modern ‘improvements’.
I asked for my Martini at the restaurant
table and was not disappointed: a stylish large glass, dry mixture, right
temperature. In short, an extremely good vodka Martini cocktail whose
effect was even more pleasant as it was possible to enjoy it in such a
spectacular setting

Novembre 2014: RistoGolf tournament
We came back in
Donnafugata with close friends Paolo Messina and Roberta Di Stefano for
the final round of the RistoGolf circuit. Playing golf at the end of
November in polo shirts is possible only in Sicily, and we loved it,
though our golf was, to be charitable, not very good. We had to console
ourselves with the Donnafugata's excellent restaurants and bar, and so I
checked again the house's Martini. I was not disappointed.
Domenico
Micali (seen above, strolling in the background, having mixed my
excellent Martini) is the ideal bartender, a nice professional with all
the good ideas about making the customers happy; his M was very good and
I enjoyed it so much that I took a second one for the beginning of the
dinner at the 'Carrubo', one of the Donnafugata resort's restaurant
(below). Please note the vivid green of the olive oil that the waiters
brought to our table and how closely does it match the hue of the olive
in my Martini! The dinner, by the way, was extraordinary and the
'Spaghetti cacio di Ragusa, pepe, ricci di mare' etc absolutely
stunning. Best dish of the year, IMHO
The overall pleasure of
Martinis, dinner etc means that the Donnafugata climbs now many places
in my ranking for my favourite 'Martini Temples'. Unfortunately it has
been closed in 2019, and this is a great losses for golfers and
gastronomers alike....
