'Giacosa' is one of the great old names of Firenze,
a bar placed at the intersection between Via Tornabuoni and Via della
Vigna. Roberto Cavalli wisely bought this sanctuary a few years ago and
has preserved it. It is one of the very few places in Florence where
they keep a gin bottle in the freezer for Martini enthusiasts. It's only
an average Bombay, but it's a huge step upwards from the other places in
Florence, where gin is kept at ambient temperature and the only
Pavlovian reaction that bartenders have to the request for a Martini is
'Yes! Hemingway!' I sincerely doubt that these dudes ever read a single
page of the overrated American writer, but at Cavalli's they know their
stuff.....

Olives are marinated in a peculiar sauce of white Tobasco, lime, pepper
and other stuff and tasted great; the Martini was not exactly freezed
but cold enough, strong and the waiter was above reproach. If you are in
Firenze, you need a good Martini and can't find the time to arrive to
the Four Seasons, Cavalli's Giacosa is a great choice
