The Verdura is one the most luxurious hotels in Sicily, the jewel in the crown of Rocco
Forte, its combination of a 5-stars luxury resort, 36-holes golf course,
three restaurants, spa and congress center making it a self-contained Paradise on Earth. Though we were not allowed to play the
East Course for some petty regulation of the Golf Secretary, we enjoyed
the West Course and the holes running along the seaside are really
spectacular.
The hotel is exquisite and the personnel extremely
courteous; we also had the pleasure of finding there Fulvio
Pierangelini, one of Italy’s great gourmet chefs and the creator of
the legendary ‘Gambero Rosso’ in San Vincenzo, one of the best
restaurants in Italy. Now he is
the master chef and supervisor of all the restaurants of the Rocco Forte
hotels. He was extremely kind in assisting us in some excellent meals:
the fish is superb, especially in the small, cozy ‘Amare’ restaurant on
the seashore.
The Martini at ‘La Torre’
was good, though there was no vodka in the freezer and the temperature
was, as a consequence, not as cold as I like it. Here they now how to
please their customers, though, so the following evening
they had a deep-frozen bottle and the Martini was excellent, especially
as we could savour it on the terrace between ‘LaTorre’ and the trattoria
‘Liola’, enjoying the sunset over Sciacca. A great pleasure
