This is a real discovery in an unlikely location.... Folgaria, near Trento, is where we went skiing when we were kids: safe slopes, good overall scenario, but honestly not on par with Cortina.

It was therefore quite a surprise to come back there for a golf tournament to find that the little, once modest town has been gradually improved during the past years, polished, refined, upgraded. This is especially evident when you book a room in this unknown jewel, 'John Luxury Suites'. Honestly, you wouldn't find this level of elegant sophistication in any other places in the nearby Alps, and the quality/ price ratio is astonishing

The 'Suites', only seven of them, are located in the 2 upper floors of this classic building in the center of Folgaria. The pasticceria is something that you can write home about, and the bartender mixed for me an excellent Martini, adding a bottle of Noilly Prat purely for visual reasons. Too bad they were out of olives....
 

The restaurant is excellent and well-furnished as well; food was a splendid mix of tradition and innovation

Believe me, the 18-hole Folgaria Golf Club course is nothing short of spectacular
