THE TEMPLES OF THE COCKTAIL MARTINI

Peacock, Bologna

The 'Peacock' opened its doors only a few weeks ago (September 2015) but it's already one of the finest bars in Bologna for the Martini cocktail connoisseur. The place comes out of the renovation of what was once the finest designer-furniture shop in Bologna, just a few yards from the two Towers and Piazza Maggiore; Marco, its manager and bartender, was the director of the now defunct 'Café Le Palais' and his old customers are transferring to his new watering spot with gusto.

He mixes an excellent Martini (his favourite gin being at the present moment the very spicy 'Boxer') and it's served very cold in perfectly shaped and correctly sized stem glasses. The tapas and fish that the waiters bring with it are very rich and tasty: a slice of herring over butter on a slice of toasted bread is my idea of what I want to eat during at the hour of the Aperitivo, as are the slices of salmon and fried calamari that are also offered during the time that you sip your Martini. Peacock is therefore the best place for a Martini in Bologna nowadays and the Martini enthusiast passing by my city cannot miss it
