According to my great friend and top motoring journalist (and great Martini connoisseur) Valerio Berruti, the best place in Rome for a Cocktail Martini is the 'Stravinsky Bar' at the fabulous Hotel de Russie. Luxurious, endowed with the unique flavour of Roman style, the de Russie is de riguer for top-level travellers: the bar is formidably well-stocked with all types of gins and vodkas, the Martini is dry and very cold, and the 'half-Martini' in a smaller glass to test the recipe before ordering a full one is a little masterpiece. Massimo is a great bartender, and his idea of putting a stemless cup in a bowl of ice is an unconventional but stylish way to keep your Martini ice-cold.
