Pioneer PL-L1000A tangential-arm DD turntable |

I recovered a Pioneer PL-L 1000A from a shelf in my studio and recommissioned it. First trials with a Grado MM cartridge |

The tonearm is a sophisticated tangential machine, intended to cancel the tracking angle error that is inherent in every conventional tonearm. After some fiddling, the PL-L1000A now works perfectly, so it's time to fit someting really better.... |

One of my beloved Sony XL55proII MC cartridges fits perfectly on the PL-L1000A short tangential arm (you have to use to use the 'heavy' counterweight, of course, and 2,5 grams tracking force, just like a EMT TSD 15). Over the years I have a bought a few of those sophisticated professional units, 'Japan's EMTs', designed for the excellent Sony PS-X9, but I never really used them because, as everyone can imagine, Ortofon SPUs and TSD 15s are better on my EMTs..... Still, I respect very much Sony and this was one of their finest efforts in analogue audio |

On this hefty (13,5 kgs) and well-engineered DD Pioneer, the Sony 55 is in its element and works wonders. A full, very 'romantic' sound, especially when processed by the excellent MC phono stage of a Denon PMA-715R amplifier |

Purposeful....I am really enjoying the full, dynamic sound of this Sony+Pioneer combo. It looks good, too |
