LOVE YOUR FM TUNERS? YAMAHA TX-550, TX-950

In September-October 2020 I enlarged my FM tuners collection with three Yamaha tuners, beginning with a nice 1991 Yamaha TX-550. Fmtunerinfo, the Bible of the tuner enthusiasts, speaks highly of Yamahas, and I was pleased to see how well this little cheap digital tuner worked, so I bought its more refined, more expensive and more complete big brother, the TX-950 |

The TX-950 is a formidable tool for listening to FM broadcasts in urban areas. Its multiple controls allow the owner/listener to switch between two antennas (this is always a sign of a tuner aiming for the best possible reception) plus one can choose bandwidth, use or not the antenna attenuator and, perhaps more important, any station can be fine-tuned in 10 khz steps for the optimum reception. For example, RAI3 in Bologna is officially 93,9 Mhz (93,900) but actually I get a much better reception tuning the TX-950 to 93,930 Mhz. BTW neither the TX-550 nor the TX-950 are RDS tuners, you have to punch the station ID manually |

Yamaha TX-492RDS. Less sophisticated than the 550 or 950, undoubtedly more Spartan, but with the added bonus of RDS |
