CRITERIA

1- Qualità di vodka e gin; chi utilizza prodotti 'premium' merita ovviamente una migliore valutazione di chi usa prodotti commerciali. Noi preferiamo Absolut 'Red', Xellent, Standard, Imperial, Belvedere, Martin Miller’s, Hendricks, Tanqueray Ten….e il Martini Extra-Dry bianco. Una bottiglia di questo vi dura una vita

1- Vodka and gin quality; using 'premium-quality ' products will earn a better classification. We prefer Absolut 'Red', Xellent, Standard, Imperial, Belvedere, Martin Miller’s, Hendricks, Tanqueray Ten….and Martin Extra-Dry white vermouth. A bottle of the latter will last a lifetime

2- Miscela del Martini, il 'nostro' Martini è miscelato, molto freddo e estremamente secco. Noel Coward disse che per fare un buon Martin basta 'riempire un bicchiere di gin e agitarlo più o meno in direzione dell'Italia'

2- Martini recipe,  we like ‘our’ Martini mixed and it has to be very, very cold ad very dry. As Noel Coward said, making a really dry Martini means ‘….filling a glass with gin and waving it in the general direction of Italy’

3- Qualità dell'oliva, che deve essere provvista del suo nocciolo e di dimensioni generose

3- Quality of the olive, it must be large and not stoned

4- Twist: se un barman, senza chiederlo, mette limone nel Martini viene espulso dalla classifica

4- Twist: if a bartender, without asking, puts a lemon ‘twist’ in our Martini he’s automatically kicked out of here

5- Forma e qualità del bicchiere, marca, dimensioni del calice; chi non usa il classico 'cono' è declassato

5-  Shape and quality of the glass, brand, size of the glass are essential; not using the classical ‘conical’ stem glass means getting out of this ranking

6- Posizionamento del locale e suo arredo, conforme o meno all'elegante spirito del cocktail Martini

6- Placement of the establishment and its furnishing, it must be adequate to the elegant spirit of the Martini 

7- Uniforme del barman e sua cordialità/invadenza

7- Bartender’s dress and his amiability/invadence

8- Il barman che, non invitato, fa battute sul Martini 'di 007' deve evere letto almeno tre libri di Ian Fleming in edizione originale e essere in grado di citarne i passi sul Martini

8- Any bartender making an uninvited reference to ‘James Bond’ must have read at least three of the original Fleming books and be able to quote their lines about Martinis

9- Gets out of here at once  anyobody referring to a vodka Martini as a 'Vodkatini'. The Billionaire, though surely interesting in its own way, is not our place

10- Guadagna molti punti il barman che ha letto 'Martini Straight-Up' nell'edizione italiana con la strepitosa prefazione di Umberto Eco

10- Earns lots of bonus points  the bartender who read 'Martini Straight-Up', especially if he got the Italian edition, graced by Umberto Eco’s spectacular foreword
