The color is wonderful: this rare dark metallic green ('Pinengruen')with beige cloth interior suits perfectly our tastes. It's much better, and much rare, than the all too common silver or black

Only 176,377 A2 ('Typ 8Z') were built between November 1999 and August 2005. Many have been scrapped now, due to the high costs of the spares and of the eventual repair of the aluminum body. Thus the A2 is beginning to be a rare sight, but many still roam around sporting their almost legendary reliability and economy: second (or third- or fourth-) hand examples often show huge mileages, sometimes more than 150.000 miles. As a comparison, the A2's deadliest rival, the Mercedes-Benz 'A-Klasse' ('W168') was produced between 1997 and 2004 in 1,1 million examples. done, ergonomically flawless, luxurious without being flashy. In fact, ergonomics have always been a strong point of Audis.

26 January: gearbox dismantled |

Gears look good but the 3rd gear syncromesh was damaged and has to be changed. Clutch, brake discs and pads will be renewed as well |

Brakes and front end were overhauled while the gearbox was being repaired, a new clutch fitted etc (18-25 January) |
