28 March 2019: taking delivery in Moncalieri
 

The third A2 in Pasini's household. A 2002 1.6 FSI in (fairly) good overall condition that Marco Gordini and I picked this morning in Moncalieri. The good points are a comparatively low mileage (135000 kms, or 84k miles, not much really), the great colour (Piniengruen, exactly as Anna's 2002 1.4), the OSS (not working, hence more aptly named 'BSS', 'Broken Sky System'), the nice 16" rims and of course the tricky but powerful 110bhp 1.6 FSI (stands for 'Fuel Stratified Injection') engine

Cupholders work (a miracle), whilst the radio is horrible. (Why do they always fit cheap Blaupunkts?) Luckily the original Audi 'Chours' cassette radio has been preserved and was included in the deal
 

Not perfect, but acceptable
 

The worst parts of the otherwise nice interior are the windows swiches. They have apparently been 'repaired' with the stickers you can find on eBay, and the result is appalling!
 

 The lever of the glovebox is broken too, but we have it

Total production: 176,377 units

The grand total prodction of the 1.6 FSI is therefore 11,081 units, or 6,25% of the grand total of the A2 series, making this a very rare, and thus potentially collectable, model

Nice 16" rims
 

The rear spoiler of the 1.6 FSI is bigger than the one fitted to less powerful models. It's necessary to keep the 1.6 under control at its maximum speed, 202 km/h

Spares...new lambda probes and hoses
 

The belt and tensioner had been just replaced but thee are many more issues
 

12 April
 

Trim parts removed to retrofit the Cruise Control command to the appropriate units
 

The quality of this little aluminum car is evident everywhere, even under the carpeting
 

The thermostat had been butchered but Marco has salvaged a complete ECU from another car and has fitted it
 

The thermostat looks perfectly original once again
 

The engine is very tidy, it must have been cleaned when they overhauled the distribution

Dismantling the interior of the A2 to fix the falling ceiling and the non-working sunroof

Actually the broken part seems to be this one, the lever linked to the chain pulling the roof open or closed
 

14 June 2019: fixing a non-working (broken) OSS
 

The Gordini brothers removed the whole roof to fix the OSS. It's fiendishly complicated and lots of time was lost waiting for the right spares to arrive from Audi. Some components of the sliding sunroof have been actually improved
 

Everything is built to the highest level, just like an A8
