We were able to salvage some parts that are not so easy to find around, for example the rear and front interior lights clusters with the sunroof switch, in the right color for my car and working! This (below) is wrecker where we found the parts |

A visit at a large wrecker's yard conveniently located near the Gordini workshop located 2 A2s, one of them being this sad example that had started her life as a good spec car with unusual color and sunroof |

Snow in October...? No, the A2 shot in a bright day with a Nikon1 J2 camera converted to IR capability. The picture was subsequently processed to convert it to a B&W image, enhancing its unusual flavour |

Andrea Bedosti carefully applied the 'A2' and '1.4' badges that were not present on my car. The positioning looks quite good |

31 October, checking the fuel consumption |
|

Ferdinand Piech famously briefed the 'Project 8Z' engineers to design a compact car that would bring 4 adults and their luggage from Stuttgart to Milano on a single tank of fuel. This morning the low fuel warning light appeared and I filled the A2's tank to the brim with 38,10 liters of unleaded. It holds 42 litres so I still had more than 3 litres in my tank |

Just to check that Piech's orders had been obeyed, I looked at the Stuttgart-Milano trip, that, according to the ViaMichelin app, is 487 kms long: with one tank (actually 38,10 litres, so 3 litres less than one full tank) my A2 covered 486,5 kms. Close enough.... And I drove her for a lot of time in the city, which of course made consumption worse, but at the end it was still a very comfortable 12,76 km/litre or 7,8 litres/100 kms |

Now this is a serious snow thread pattern.... |

The original Audi A2 alloy wheels that I used for the winter tires have very dull-looking centre caps. Even these marginal components are somehow an engineering overkill, being made of a aluminum shell with a plastic base; everything is extremely light, rigid and also quite attractive, at least until aluminum oxidizes... |

|
...they can be polished, of course, but the 'deep scars' will remain |

Two of my '444' compared: it's easy to appreciate how much taller the A2 is, but an AMG Mercedes C-Klasse is obviously much sleeker... |

Not perfect....but more than passable for snow tires and winter use. This set of alloys cost me Euro 100+ 100 more for sanding, painting etc |

...and a new battery |
|

|
In the very useful Audi A2 Forum UK I read that the original Varta battery usually go on for 12 years. My original Varta battery began to signs of severe trouble after 13 years, so it had the rights to be replaced here three empty compartments in the tools/battery box, what are they for? |

Replacement was a Bosch 80Ah battery. Good for another 12 yrs ;-)) |

After 25 miles on the highway, still cold... |
...then in 2 kms it jumps up to 'normal' |
24/02/2019: main engine ECU (V 036 906 034 CA) fails.... |
|

|
...so I had to find another one. The price of a new one is staggering.... |
|
....but then luckily it was NOT the main engine ECU that had failed. It was an air sensor being dirty, so the Audi Zentrum cleaned it and the A2 is working well again. Cheap fix too.... |
