It was nice to drive the almost completed A2 to Versilia for a relaxing week-end from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 July. CT856WD runs like a watch, but, mind you, a not very fast watch: with this car you seldom risk your license as you need to push hard to break any speed limit on the highway

The hood can be removed very easily...

...to check the coolant level...

Audi A2

....the engine....

...but be careful with your hands!

Best Martini in Versilia...!

Enchanting

Anna's garage in Firenze, and our two A2s, his & hers

28 July 2018: Fitting a navigation system

The XGODY 712 navigation system is a cheap but surprisingly complete Chinese GPS/navigation system with all the bells and whistles (2D/3D, complete address book, points of interest, speed cameras and traffic light cameras warning, plus movies, music, bluetooth connection etc) for a very convenient price of Euro 50 on eBay, shipping included. It works quite well....

Night colours

Fixing the ubiquitous suction cup to the windscreen looks so cheap and in the A2 the windscreen is too far anyway, so I bought the TomTom self-adhesive discs and attached one of them on the upper part of the facia, then the Xgody suction cup on it. It's a neat solution, pity about the power cord running on the side of the ventilation outlets. I must find a more elegant solution, but for now this will go

I have found an almost perfect 'Concert' CD-radio...it will be fitted soon

30 July 2018

Real summer is here....38,5 °C luckily the A/C of the A2 is excellent and allowed me to travel confortably from Bologna to Faenza, hospital etc and back
Even when the temperature hit 39°C, the excellent performance of the A2's climate control, the perfect ventilation and the very confortable 'Sinus' cloth ('YA') on the seats allowed me to commute in great comfort without suffering. Leather is stylish, but it would have been terribly hot

22 August 2018, Versilia again

Driving the A2 on the very narrow, twisty road up to a place called Capezzano, just over Pietrasanta, you appreciate its nimbleness, narrow body and you can't but love the Open Sky Sunroof. To be honest I'm used to more power, and the 75 bhp of the 1,4 engine are not terribly exciting....but once you open the sunroof to enjoy a spectacular sunset over the sea in front of Forte dei Marmi, even that seems quite trivial. And the 'Buca del Tasso', the very pleasant typical trattoria that was the objective of this shortish trip (only 7 miles/11 km, but 25 minutes due to the extreme twistiness of the road) was worthy of the effort, rewarding us with a splendid Bistecca

27 August 2018

Well, this is another reason why I wanted the OSS on my 2 A2s.....San Petronio is the Saint Protector of Bologna, this statue is in the centre of my city and it was good to greet Petronius this morning at 7,15 am from my A2 as I drove to my hospital

The perfect design and build quality of the glass OSS is evident in this pic from above

The 'Concert' CD-radio fitted. An almost NOS example

Mr Bartoli, the great exhaust wizard, did check the whole system of my A2 to see if the weak answer to throttle at 1000 rpm was due to any fault in this part. Everything was in order...

Small wonder that the RH sidelamp (right) emitted less light than the LH (left)....

Front grille removed to fit the fog lamps kindly provided by Steve on the UK Audi A2 Club Forum

3 September, new number plates

Andrea Bedosti cleaned the lights and fitted Leds, the old ones being quite tired (see below)

Washing the A3. The new LH headlamp is evidently much clearer than the old one (RH). Unfortunately, new RH lamps are not available

This is a nice registration number, the third '444' plate in my collection after the Mercedes (DW444CH) and the Jaguar (EX444BX)

7 September 2018: fog lamps

'A2Steve' ('A2OC Donor') from the A2 Owners' Club (UK) kindly sent me the fog lamps and the grilles etc to fit them on my A2; Audi-Zentrum Leipzig supplied the correct switch after another Geman eBay 'specialist' had sold me a wrong one. It all works now

September 2018, further upgrades

The 'Sinus' fabric my A2 was equipped with when I bought it

I have found some 'Matrix' seats in VGC. Once steam-cleaned, they look good

Detail of the pattern; 'Matrix' appear to be a upper-class fabric

Some repair will be needed...

Ready to be fitted by AutoInterni

The 'new' Matrix-covered seats in place. They look lovely; steam-cleaning works wonders on good fabrics

5 October 2018

Visiting a wrecker yard with Marco Gordini this afternoon made us collect a few spares, first of all the rear interior lights cluster, he fitted it in place of the old one (not working) and was able to make it work

The interior lighting of the A2 looks good with the new LED lamps on, especially when the rear cluster works as it shound, which is rare...
