I chose CT856WD for same three reasons that made me buy EK606PS for Anna: the gasoline engine, the extremely rare color and the 'Panoramadach'. The latter didn't work and had to be fixed; it is however easy to understand why it is so rare now, when you see how much it did cost when new. CT856WD is also one of the very last A2s built and has all the latest improvements. It also has the useful rear parking sensors The view (below) of the chassis number, stamped between the two front seats, it's typical of the 'unusual' detailing of the A2 |

The central facia is a bit worn, like befits a 110.000 miles car, but not bad: the original Audi 'Chorus' radio is in good condition and works, the climate control buttons are not decoloured as in most high-mileage Audis. All speaks of a well used, but also well cared for car that is still in failry good genuine overall condition after so many years....a good cleaning throughout will be necessary anyway, if only to get rid of old stickers, glue etc The cupholders are broken, a common fault on A2s. New ones are needed |

The light switch is one of the worst details, so a new one will be fitted |

Marco Gordini already succeeded in reparing the Panoramadach. It works! :-))) The Gordinis are really great |

The A2 has been put on a lift to check the mechanicals. The results of the inspection were quite surprising.... |

We had already decided to overhaul the distribution belt as it is one of the critical points of this BBY engine, but it was shocking to see that even in this A2, like in Anna's, the belt tensioner was broken and the belt was therefore slack. Driving the A2 back home from Brescia the belt had always been on the brink of catastrophe... |

This is the broken belt tensioner |

The belt had been ordered in advance so it was ready to be fitted with all the other parts of the distribution, but what was at first believed to be an excessive caution suddenly turned out to be a life saver. And one must be really glad that the engine didn't break before Marco did open it and acknowledged the impending doom |

On the other hand brakes, clutch, gearbox etc seem to be in very good order |

The A2 came with 2 keys with its transponder, but both were quite worn out and looked ugly. I had them overhauled with new plastic shells bought on the Web and expertly fitted by Oscar Pedroni's 'Bottega della Chiave' Via Piella 10/A, 40126 Bologna - Tel. 051 26 49 82 - info@bottegadellachiave.net They are Masters in fitting locks, duplicating keys and remotes, etc. |

Jon Zammett is the Audi UK PRO. It's significant that he bought an A2 for himself in 2017.... https://mobile.twitter.com/AudiUKPress/status/845256901797564419 |

...yes, but why do I repair old cars spending much more than they will be ever worth? The answer, probably, is Kintsugi.... "Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"), also known as Kintsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. As a philosophy, kintsugi can be seen to have similarities to the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, an embracing of the flawed or imperfect. Japanese aesthetics values marks of wear by the use of an object. This can be seen as a rationale for keeping an object around even after it has broken and as a justification of kintsugi itself, highlighting the cracks and repairs as simply an event in the life of an object rather than allowing its service to end at the time of its damage or breakage. Kintsugi can relate to the Japanese philosophy of "no mind" (無心 mushin), which encompasses the concepts of non-attachment, acceptance of change and fate as aspects of human life. “ Not only is there no attempt to hide the damage, but the repair is literally illuminated... a kind of physical expression of the spirit of mushin....Mushin is often literally translated as "no mind," but carries connotations of fully existing within the moment, of non-attachment, of equanimity amid changing conditions. ...The vicissitudes of existence over time, to which all humans are susceptible, could not be clearer than in the breaks, the knocks, and the shattering to which ceramic ware too is subject. This poignancy or aesthetic of existence has been known in Japan as mono no aware, a compassionate sensitivity, or perhaps identification with, [things] outside oneself." The A2's cupholders are notoriously frail, and only one among the four we have in our A2s actually work (i.e., stay close when needed). What may be the faulty part of this nice little cupholder? |

In my A2's previous life, somebody tried to force the driver's door lock open, ruining it. I want to have everything working as it did when the car was new, so I ordered a new one....Audi provided a new lock sending them the chassis number and a proof of identity. It works! |

The old headlamps were dull, something nearly unavoidable after 13 years of use. I ordered a pair of new Valeo spares so I have them as good as new once again. Bright lights are a necessity |

The ashtray is of course useless in the Pasini's family, as nobody smokes. Anyway, once cleaned and modified, it makes for a handy place to store coins and the like |
